I had the privilege of spending 3 days documenting daily life at Dmitrov orphanage boarding school in Russia under the control of Ed Kashi, where their was a total of ten photographers working throughout different orphanages, five of us are ICP alumni, 2010, and five students from the Rodchenko school of Photography in Moscow. A trip that was sponsored and organized by Happy Families, a Russian NGO whereby their focus is to help and raise awareness for orphans with disabilities.
The fifty five year old orphanage located approximately two hours north of Moscow is home to roughly one hundred and twenty orphans with varying disabilities and that range from 4 to 19 years of age. Ultimately these individuals appear to have accepted their respective disability while sustaining some level of normalcy and dignity.
